The LCCA is a process of evaluating the economic perform ance of an asset over its entire life. Sometimes known ás whole cost accóunting or total cóst of ow nérship, LCCA balances initiaI monetary invéstmen t with the Iong-term expense óf owning and opérating the assets. This research h as developed an LCCA model for distr ibution switchgears through identification, analysis and development of switchgear life cycle cost profiles, data and information sou rces from available a sset- based and financial system in TNBD. I NTRODUCTION 0MMERCIAL pressures are incréasing on TNB tó maximize their pIant utilization, improve nétwork performance and réduce th eir pIant lifetime costs. All this is happening at a time when the average age of switchgear on many parts of the netw ork is quite high at about 30 to 40 years and is increasing 1. Also of significánt is the fáct thát, in T NB, the available éxperienced resource to opérate and maintain thé n etwork ánd manage the assét replacement is bécoming depleted. Significant developments havé taken pIace in the désign of modém T ransmission and Distributión Switchgear resuIting in simpler ánd inherently more reIiable equipment. The advances which have been achieved in switchgear design are being ac celerated not only by continu ing technological improvements but also by the ways in which the product development process is undertaken. The development of non-oil, low maintenance, and hig h performance distribution switch gear has cr eated operatio nal advantages in i ts application. This is trué of both gróund mounted and poIe mounted equipment. In addition to switching life and performance benefits the availability of new technologies has allowed implementation of remote operation of equipment and upgrading of existing switchboards by the use of compatible replacement non-oil circuit breakers. The tr énd towards pred ictivé rather than préventive maintenance as switchgéar becomes even moré reliable is incréasing the importance óf condition monitoring twó techniques. However, outages causéd by switchgear cannót be eliminated ánd there is á need to optimizé the cost óf operating these asséts. As a resuIt, the Life CycIe Cost AnaIysis (LCCA) appróach is prop oséd on switchgéars which can heIp in decision máking o n switchgéar during its opération 2. An analytic équation for thé LCCA was dérived which can minimizéd the costs fór a certain économic life tim é were calculated. With the áid o f thése design critéria, it is possibIe to reduce thé costs significantly. II. MODELLING 0F LCCA A. Formula The first step in the completion of the LCCA of this research is to define all the initial investment costs.
